This fall we had a guest say Crystal River Inn B&B exudes hygge. This was news to me since I did not know what that meant. She gave us the September issue of “Viking” magazine, a publication of the Sons of Norway, in which hygge is the theme. Here’s what it said: Hygge means a feeling of coziness, togetherness and taking comfort in life’s simple pleasures. This Nordic lifestyle concept has become an international phenomenon. Pronounced HIG-geh in Norwegian, the term is a cornerstone of Scandinavian culture, first appearing in Danish writing in the early 1800s. But it actually is of Norwegian origin. The word is derived from “hugga,” the Norwegian term that means “to comfort.”

Well, now we know and we agree!
